I Will Teach You To Be Rich by Ramit Sethi

Ramit Sethi’s “I will teach you to be rich” is a guide to personal finance where he discusses debt management, bank accounts, investments, etc. The book begins with debt management and ways to build a better credit score, followed by a discussion on credit cards. Later, various investment strategies and options are discussed.

I really liked that Ramit has discussed all the details about his personal holdings and his preferences transparently. There are various good details on negotiating your bank charges and late fee management that are presented as conversations between the customer and the customer representative. Another excellent thing about the book is that it doesn’t only tell you the surface options out there, but goes in detail including practical roadblocks and issues one might encounter. Most of the content regarding securities and investing options in the book is relevant in the US market. As an Indian reader, I did not find most of the schemes discussed relevant to me. However, In the Indian market are a lot of investment options that are equivalent to the ones mentioned in the book, so it might be helpful to look them up. Along with particular recommendations, the tools and fundamental reasonings behind investment strategies are quite informative and helpful.

I focused more on understanding the reasoning behind his arguments and the fundamentals of the securities, which he advocated. This one takes the cake because of the practicality of the content. I liked the tone of this book, which was comparatively casual than other personal finance books I have encountered.

I believe it will be a good pick for beginner investors who want to understand investment strategies along with managing their debts. Also, it’s comparatively an easy read and wouldn’t overwhelm the reader with heavy jargons.
