‘Double Indemnity’ is a mystery and thriller book. The story is based on a very simple plotline. Yet, in a few pages, it can put anyone on their toes. The story starts with a woman looking for insurance for her husband. She plans to get her husband killed and claim the insurance money. The Insurance guy, who is also the protagonist, Walter, helps her get accident insurance. Accident insurance claims pay double indemnity in certain railroad accidents, and the greed of Phyllis and Walter make them commit a horrendous crime.
The story right from the start has a very unique and intriguing tone. The one which immediately grips your attention and you immerses in the story. The narration by the protagonist from time to time gives us the first-person account of the events. It’s amazing to know that this book was first published in 1928. And it still retains the magic!
